Low information voters

This diary is meant mainly for the low information voters. Others can ignore.

Many low info voters think that majority of Obama's campaign money comes from small donors. This is a clever piece of work by this campaign.
Majority of his donors are small donors, but majority of his money doesn't come from small donors. His campaign says 90% of his donors are small donors. This is true. But 90% of his money doesn't come from small donors. Something like 50% does.

What this means - lets see with an example.
Say he has 10 donations totalling to 3600$.
This may be something like
200$,200$,200$,200$,200$,200$,200$,200$, 200$,1800$

So 90% of his donors donated 200$ or below.
But only 50% of the money is from these small donors

This info has been rather cleverly disguised from low information voters by the campaign.

From an LA Times article

Of the $20.3 million Obama's joint fundraising committees amassed in June, 86%, or $17.6 million, came in chunks of $5,000 or more; 64% came in increments of $28,500 or more, campaign finance reports filed over the weekend show.

Frank Clark, head of Commonwealth Edison, which supplies electricity to Chicago, gave $2,300 to Obama early in the campaign and $28,500 last month to the Democratic White House Victory Fund.

John Rogers, founder of the Chicago investment house Ariel Capital, also gave the maximum to Obama's presidential account, and $13,000 to Democratic White House Victory.

According to the campaign, Clark and Rogers are among Obama's largest fundraisers, each having raised more than $200,000 from friends and associates.

Employees at Exelon, the parent company of Commonwealth Edison, have given more than $180,000.

McDonald's President Donald Thompson and Pepsi Chairman Robert Pohlad each gave $28,500. The Pohlad family, including Minnesota Twins owner Carl Pohlad, gave a combined $170,000 to Democratic committees.

With any luck, this will narrow the points gap between you and Jacob Freeze.

It's a swipe at Obama.  But, it's too clever by half, because it's really hard to understand.

I wouldn't say it's (2.00 / 2)

too clever by half.

omg CG, it's obvious (2.00 / 2)

  1. Obama lied.
  2. Sort of.
  3. Depending on how you interpreted what he said. 4) And ignoring the true parts.

Re: i dont get this dairy at all.... (2.00 / 1)

Well...

86% of 39% of Obama's fundraising came from donations of $5000 or more. We'll ignore the 61% of the fundraising that didn't come through joint fundraising (that which went to Obama directly) because it doesn't fit with the premise that everyone but the author is an uninformed idiot and it would mean that only about a third of Obama's fundraising came from large donors, which is against the hypothetical premise that you can get the majority of your money from large donors while having mostly small donors. Since the majority of the money Obama actually raised, according to the figures provided here, was from small donors and the small donors were the majority of the donors, meaning that if you selectively ignore facts, you can post a tidy diary where everything is perfectly clear.

Re: Low information voters (2.00 / 2)

How about not starting a diary with a totally unidentifiable pronoun?  You know Hillary is not still running, right?  Saying "he" does not make things clear when both candidates are hes.  Sloppy writing.

I am so relieved to read those numbers, I'm not too good at math, but when you add it all up, it seems like we Democrats are really coming together to make some real inroads against the Republicans.

Re: Low information voters (2.00 / 2)

I don't understand why this info is targeted at low information voters? The Obama campaign has dazzzled everyone with their fund raising sleight of hand.

Re: Low information voters (none / 0)

The same reason that McCain now tosses out blatant lies on a routine basis. It's easy to lie to low-information voters. Though I suspect in this instance, the diarist is annoyed at feeling that we think that whichever perspective they're coming from is "low-information". Which is unfortunate, because the more that you stay inside a bubble, the more you lose perspective of reality.

I'm a low information person, hence (2.00 / 1)

I cannot make out the point of your diary. 90% of Obama donors are small donors who contribute atleast 50% or more to the campaign coffers. Is that your point? Ok.. great..and So?

Here come the judge (2.00 / 2)

I'm sorry the judges have reviewed your diary, deemed a thinly veiled PUMA piece. Since you missed the last call deadline for PUMA diaries by 36 hours.

So  you fail.

Er what? (2.00 / 1)

You're basing this on an article about joint fundraising committees?

The mean donation was $68.  If we can find out what the median donation was we'll have a good idea what proportion of his money came from small donors.

Re: Er what? (none / 0)

Shhh... No statistics terms. Just inflammatory ones.

Re: Low information voters (2.00 / 2)

We had a nicer day today. It got up to 99 on Monday with a heat index around 106. It rained Tuesday and was raining this morning when I got up. I don't think the temp got out of the low 90's today.

What?  Using her name is vain, or even in a reply to a troll is forbidden?  C'mon guys, we all liked her, but should we be treating her as deity?  :)
